The protests in Thailand, area anti-government demonstrators blocked approachable flights, accept apparent hundreds of Kiwis clumsy to leave the country.
Consumer.org.nz advisor Maggie Edwards said some travel insurance policies covered acts of terrorism and civil unrest while others did not.
Ms Edwards said coverage varied from company to company and policy to policy so people needed to be aware.

Ms Edwards warned Kiwis to shop around for the best policy, saying we are too blasé when choosing our cover.
"Read the fine print," she said.
The foreign affairs ministry advised those who were concerned or unsure about their cover to contact their travel agents.
The major insurance providers contacted by Stuff.co.nz said their clients would be covered.
Southern Cross said their clients were covered for reasonable expenses such as accommodation, travel and food in cases of civil unrest - if they were in the country when the incident occurred.
However, they were not covered if they went to the country knowing the unrest was happening.
