Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell said Thursday that he'll accept to abrasion a appropriate splint on his afflicted larboard duke during the Red Raiders' basin game.

Harrell bankrupt his larboard pinkie and ring fingers in several places during the additional division of Tech's home afterpiece Saturday adjoin Baylor. On Sunday, Harrell had 17 pins and two plates amid into his burst fingers during four hours of surgery.

Harrell, speaking publicly for the first time since his surgery, said he's recovering fine. Harrell said he's still wearing a "big cast" on his left hand but that is scheduled to be removed today.

"As soon as that gets off, it'll be doing great," said Harrell, the senior from Ennis.

Harrell, a Heisman Trophy candidate, said he'll receive two or three different splints to wear leading up to Tech's bowl game. Harrell said one of the splints will be for football only. He said the football splint is supposed to help him handle snaps with less pain.

Harrell leads the nation with 406 completions and ranks second with 4,747 passing yards. He's tied for third nationally with 41 touchdown passes. He said he will definitely play in Tech's bowl game. Harrell said he hasn't done any football activities since the surgery. Tech will return to practice late next week after final exams.

Harrell said he was injured Saturday while being sacked. He said he's not sure what his hand hit during the contact but he knew when it happened.

"I looked down at my finger and it was kind of dangling," Harrell said, "and I was thinking, 'That's not good.'"

Harrell said he learned that his fingers were "shattered" after taking X-rays at halftime. He said if he were earlier in his college career or earlier in the season, he would have likely shut it down at halftime. But he said there was no way he was not playing the second half of his final Tech home game.

Harrell led Tech back from a two-touchdown deficit in the third quarter for a 35-28 win. He finished 41-for-50 passing for 309 yards.

He played the second half with his two injured fingers taped together. After halftime, Harrell was 20-for-23 passing for 171 yards. He said he played in considerable pain.

"It wasn't easy. But you already have shattered fingers. It's not going to get much worse," Harrell said. "That was the last chance I was going to have to play at home and that's not a game you want to come out of. I said I was fine.

"If you can't play through a little bit of pain, you're probably not playing the right sport."
